Hitster works like this: cards with a QR code are laid out on the table, one player scans a card with their phone (via the free Hitster app), the phone plays a few seconds of a song, and the players try to guess where it belongs on their timeline – before or after a card they've already placed. Guess right and you keep the card; the first to correctly arrange ten cards in order wins.
Each card also shows the artist and song title, so you can play a simpler version too – just guessing the artist or the title. It works well as a party icebreaker as well as a more relaxed evening game over a glass of wine, and since nobody's stuck waiting around, it scales nicely to a bigger group.
The game itself is localized, and the companion app runs on any smartphone with internet access (required to play the song clips).
